VHR SATELLITE IMAGERY

Production of Color Orthophotomaps with the use of High Resolution Satellite Imagery.

Map has acquired significant know-how in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. Twenty years of working in projects involving the processing and management of Satellite Imagery from the majority of available satellites – SPOT, Landsat, IRS, IKONOS, QuickBird, GeoEye, WorldView, MODIS and ASTER— allowed us to develop workflows and techniques that allow for quicker processing and excellent quality of deliverables. Recently, Map invested in developing applications using the new products of Astrium’s Pleiades Satellites and in particular the Stereo and TriStereo data.
Map has participated in many projects involving the creation of orthophoto maps from Satellite Imagery of very high resolution (pixel size ≤1m), and delivered, with exceptional success, orthoimages of country-wide coverage for AGROGI S.A in Greece. The deliverables (9.200 orthophotomaps, distribution 1:5.000, time of delivery 7 months) were checked and evaluated from an independent agency using 7.200 ground control points which certified accuracies better than 2 meters.
In total, Map has produced more than 450.000 km² of terrain and has ortho-corrected and successfully delivered Ikonos, Quickbird and GeoEye (VHR) images for an area of more than 160.000 km² in Greece and Cyprus. Moreover, it has significant exoertese in the stereoscopic processing of Satellite Images, having generated more than 200.000 km² of Digital Terrain Model, more than 500km² of stereoscopic digitizing, using Ikonos images and more than 160 km² of photogrammetric documentations with stereoscopic GeoEye images.
At Map, we learned that in order to execute correct ortho-correction, we need several elements: a reliable DTM, distinct and well distributed ground control points, suitable angles of image taking and radiometric enhancement, and effective smoothing, during the creation or the orthophoto mosaics of different takings or resolutions.
